BOXPARK Croydon

Here at M&R, we occasionally take on projects that step outside the norm, working on bespoke wooden floor surfaces that require specialized attention. One such project was at BOXPARK Croydon, where we were tasked with restoring heavily worn scaffold board flooring. Over the years, the floor had endured heavy foot traffic and numerous spillages, leaving it in desperate need of rejuvenation.

To ensure the client was satisfied with the result, we began by completing a sample area for approval. Once the client was happy, we deployed one of our sanding teams to take on the challenge. The task was extensive, spanning over 200m² of floor space and each scaffold board contained 10-20 screws, many of which were protruding. These screws needed to be meticulously adjusted to sit flush with the surface, a time-consuming but essential step before sanding could begin.

After addressing the screws, we swept and vacuumed the entire surface to remove debris, ensuring a clean workspace. The sanding process started with coarse grit sandpaper to strip the boards back to bare wood, exposing the natural grain and removing any previous finish. This initial step is critical for achieving a smooth and even surface.

We continued sanding with progressively finer grits of sandpaper to refine the surface further. Any gaps in the boards were filled using a mixture of wood dust (collected from our 95% dust-free sanding machines) and resin, which was then sanded flush once hardened.

By the end of the process, the scaffold boards were transformed, providing a fresh, smooth, and rejuvenated floor that beautifully combined functionality with character.
